According to the complete and excellent report “Protecting fruit production from frost damage” issued by the European Commission in November 2019, the best strategy is ” having a precise knowledge of the microclimate during frost nights: this is very important for both passive and active methods, mainly the flows of cold dense air and the strength of the inversions. This requires measurements of physical variables such as minimum temperatures and wind speed in different parts of the orchards”
This is exactly the approach of The Climate Box for reducing risk of frost damage, via the modelation of cold air fluxes via our proprietary computer fluid mechanics modeling of cold air flows, fed by temperature measurements at each studied field.
